I was born in Alabama and I've lived near Minneapolis, in Toronto and currently enjoy living in Atlanta. I've been doing graphic design work for more than 13 years. It seems like a long time. It kind of is a long time.
I mostly do freelance design but I am always open to on-going contract work as well as full time work at the perfect place. If you'd like to
get in contact with me to talk about a project, get a quote or discuss more long term work, feel free.
I'm self taught in design and hold a degree in Advertising. I think that combination is pretty important to the way I approach my work.
Art was always interesting growing up but when I really took the time to look at graphic design, it was life changing. It seems to hold a lot more depth. Anyone can make decent art but effective design has more layers and is more difficult to craft. I found this intriguing.
So, let's wrap this little part up. I like music a lot and I don't own any cats but my girlfriend does so that is kind of like owning cats. Alright, done.
Unfortunately a lot of graphic designers still look at it as just art... they want to make pretty pictures. Something can look great but not do its job. Graphic design has a job to do. It's all about communication. Graphic design isn't the message, it leads the viewer to and through the message.
"Design should never say, 'Look at me.' It should always say, 'Look at this.'"
— David Craib
The best solution to a design problem is the simplest possible. Intense, flashy graphics do have their place but they do no equate to better design. Neither do ultra-minimal graphics. Latching to one type of style and running with it for every project will lead to failure. The only way to know the best solution and to get the most effective results is through research and real knowledge. Making a good looking design is easy but creating successful graphic design is and will always be much more than creating pretty pictures.
I make the design work in every project I
take on.
